Toontown Plane

Project:
Mickey’s Toontown Plane

Client:
Disneyland Resort + Alaska Airlines

Joyfully known as the "Mickey's Toontown Express," this playful livery celebrates the reimagining of Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland Park and features delightful images of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, along with their friends Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck!

It took artists over 400 hours and 20 days to hand-paint the brightly colored aircraft exterior from nose to tail.

Early development
Originally, I was leaning into highlighting just Mickey and Minnie, and I had quickly experimented with whether they should be highlighted on separate sides or if they should appear together on each side. But because Toontown allows our Guests to meet Mickey’s and Minnie’s friends as well, I later created the concept seen below that highlights their closest pals.

I had also experimented with the idea of showcasing multiple structures from the land, such as Mickey’s and Minnie’s houses, Toontown’s City Hall, and more, but ultimately decided on just highlighting Mickey’s House and El CapiTOON (where the land’s newest attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, takes place).

After careful consideration, I arrived at this particular design for the livery. By highlighting only specific buildings from Mickey’s Toontown, I was able to expand my available space to feature our other beloved characters present in the land. The side where guests enter into the plane features Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and the El CapiTOON Theater from Toontown’s newest attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, while the opposite side features Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, and Mickey’s House.
